Three ways to get documents notarised
Jagdeep Kailey is a Licensed Notary Public in Ontario and a paralegal licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. That combination means documents connected to an immigration matter can usually be handled in one place, by one person who understands what the receiving authority will require.
Appointments are available three ways. In office at our Brampton location. Mobile, where we attend your home, workplace, hospital or care facility. Or online, where the identity verification and execution take place over video in accordance with the applicable Ontario requirements.
Before you book, it is always worth confirming with the organisation receiving your document exactly what they need: notarisation, commissioning, a certified true copy, or full authentication and legalisation. They are different things, and the wrong one means doing it twice.

Most people are told to get something notarised without being told which service they actually need. These are the situations we handle most often.

In office
At our Brampton office by appointment. Bring valid government-issued photo identification and the unsigned document.
Mobile
We attend your location: home, workplace, hospital or care facility, where attending in person is difficult. Travel is subject to distance.
Online
Remote notarisation and commissioning by video where the document and the receiving authority permit it, following Ontario requirements for remote execution.
Alongside an immigration file
Where documents form part of a matter we are already handling, notarisation is coordinated with the rest of the file.

Confirm what you need
Check with the receiving organisation whether they require notarisation, commissioning, a certified copy or full authentication. We can help you work this out.
Book your appointment
Choose in office, mobile or online. Tell us the document type and how many signatures are involved so we can allow the right amount of time.
Attend with identification
Bring valid government-issued photo identification. Do not sign the document beforehand, signatures must generally be made in the notary’s presence.
Execution and release
The document is executed, stamped and signed. If it needs onward authentication or apostille, we can advise on the next step.

Some documents, particularly those intended for use abroad, require authentication or an apostille after notarisation. Confirm with the receiving authority before you book so the process is completed in the right order.

Before you book
These are the problems we see most often in files that arrive after something has already gone wrong. Almost every one is preventable at the preparation stage.
Where these applications fail
- Do not sign the document in advance, signatures generally must be made in the notary's presence
- Bring valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification
- Confirm with the receiving organisation whether notarisation alone is sufficient
- Check whether the document also needs authentication or an apostille for use abroad
- Bring all signing parties to the same appointment where multiple signatures are required
- Tell us in advance if the document is in a language other than English

What is the difference between notarising and commissioning?
Commissioning generally involves administering an oath or declaration for use in Ontario. Notarisation carries broader effect and is usually what is required for documents used outside the province or country. Ask the receiving organisation which they require.
Can everything be done online?
Many documents can be handled remotely by video where Ontario requirements for remote execution are met and the receiving authority accepts it. Some cannot. Tell us the document type and we will confirm before you book.
Do you travel for mobile appointments?
Yes, within a reasonable distance of Brampton, including to homes, workplaces, hospitals and care facilities. Travel may affect the fee: see our pricing page.
What identification do I need?
Valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification. If you are unsure whether what you hold is sufficient, ask us before the appointment rather than on arrival.
Do I need an apostille as well?
It depends on the destination country and the receiving authority. Canada’s position on apostilles changed in recent years, so confirm current requirements before assuming. Our apostille page explains the process.
