The most direct route for people already here
The Canadian Experience Class is one of the three programs managed through Express Entry, and it exists for a specific group: people who have already gained skilled work experience inside Canada while holding authorised status.
It is often the strongest option for post-graduation work permit holders and temporary foreign workers, for two reasons. The experience is Canadian, so it is easier to verify. And unlike the Federal Skilled Worker Program, there is no requirement to show settlement funds.
The catch is that the experience must be genuinely skilled, genuinely authorised, and genuinely documented. Self-employment and experience gained while studying full time generally do not count.

Graduates of Canadian institutions who moved onto a PGWP and have accumulated skilled experience are the single largest group using this route.

Does my part-time work count?
It can. The requirement is expressed in hours, so part-time work over a longer period may reach the same threshold as full-time work over a shorter one. The calculation needs care where hours varied or there were multiple employers.
I studied and worked at the same time. Does that count?
Work performed while you were a full-time student generally does not count toward this programme, even if it was authorised. Experience gained after graduation on a PGWP typically does.
My work permit expires soon. Is it too late?
Not necessarily, but the timeline matters and options narrow quickly. Speak to us before the permit expires rather than after, maintaining status is far easier than restoring it.
Do I need settlement funds for CEC?
No. That is one of the practical advantages of this route compared with the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
Can I include my spouse and children?
Yes. Family members can be included as accompanying dependants, and your spouse’s language ability and education may also affect your ranking score.
